World Grandslam beach volleyball

Well, sport, sand, wind and a little sun. This could sum up the FIVB World Tour Grandslam Beach Volleyball event at Scheveningen recently. And a great event it was too. I was asked by the US Volleyball magazine to produce a photo story on the event and had a terrific time court side. I met some great athletes and also fellow photographers and journos.

My 60D made a good account of itself while being battered by sand. I also noticed a lot of the other photographers blattering away at the players with their Canon 1D Xs with their 12 frames a second (in RAW). And their Nikon D4 equivalents.

The lenses that adorned these beasts were equally impressive. F4 200-400 Nikons, an array of 300 2.8s from Sigma, Canon and Nikon. And of course my own trusty 70-300 and 17-50!

All in all, a great time was had. I uploaded a few of my pics in low res to my photography page so check them out!

The one you see here is of the elimination round between the lovely German and Dutch ladies. The Germans won this game to take bronze in the finals. I’ll post the article of the full Volleyball magazine story after its published later this month.

Cheers for now!
